After one of Savannah's classic torrential downpours on my walk with Mardi and Tux, I found a chunk of Live Oak bark that had fallen in the shape of Mississippi. Live oak trees are the enduring spine and visual signature of Savannah's streets. The Mississippi state bark shape immediately inspired a vision of other states and led me to my next series of "United State Bark". A grad school discussion question, "do you ever create political art?" resurfaced during this series. I do not, yet love how the states in this series are united by the bark theme and in the 9x12 scale. I am equally fond of how an alumni friend has created a map that puts each state back in the geographical location and scale.
